We were five young people, all English lovers. We wanted to create a platform where we can fully live our common passion: English language. For us, English is not just a language or a tool of communication; it is an opportunity to change our life. We then, decided to create an English Club. We wanted to find a name for it; and after several choices, we have kept this one: ICE Club which stands for I’m Crazy about English (because this is who we are).

ICE Club is born. The first step we have done was to find English lovers like us to share this passion within the club. For that, we posted announcements in newspapers to invite them to join our weekly meeting which is now held at EPP Analakely Room 11 every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.

ICE Club and members’ activities:

ICE Club offers intense PRACTICE of English language to its members by having fun games (spelling bee, role play, miming, tongue twister, quiz…) and then by discussing topics (life after death, globalization, men are more honest than women, climate change…) on every meeting.

Every second Saturday of the month, right after the meeting, we lunch together then go to a member’s place for the movie session. Obviously, we watch an English version movie 

Moon is in charge of a very new activity which trains us for a big theater show performed and organized by the Ice Drama Team.

From time to time, the ICE members also plan other outing activities such as picnics, dancing party, karaoke party… It seems like it will become a “custom” to spend the Independence Day Eve together

ICE Club and public activities:

The purpose of ICE Club is to popularize the use of English language in Madagascar. We though understand that not everyone can join our weekly meeting due to several duties. We then have made efforts to give opportunity to the whole Malagasy people to be part of us and to follow our activities.

We have a special English page every other Thursday. This is a cooperation with MIDI Madagasikara newspaper. On English Corner, we try to share articles which deal with everyday life, culture, social, idioms, tips, jokes…

We also have the English Saturday every last Saturday of the month. This is an activity initiated by ICE Club and it is open to all English clubs in Tana and all English lovers. We wanted to have this special meeting in a public space where we can show to the others that there is a local English speaking community in Madagascar. It is a great opportunity to meet other people who are “crazy about English”. We usually spend great time together and have a lot of fun.

We had two radio broadcasts on Radio MADA and Feon’Imerina. Unfortunately, there are suspended due to the political turmoil in Madagascar. By the way, ICE Club is not involved in politics and religions.

ICE Club and Internet:

As we said earlier that ICE Club’s main goal is to promote English language. We then created this website thanks to Tahina. The ICE website discloses various articles, reports on ICE activities. You are all invited to take part by posting some jokes, poems; and do not miss the forum. If you register your email address, then you will periodically receive a newsletter.
